Problem Statement

Inconsistent Support for Students with Disabilities in Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs)

Current standards, processes and responsibilities for the support of students with disabilities in IHLs are undefined and unclear. Assistance rendered to students depends on the availability of resources and level of knowledge. Therefore, students with disabilities at IHLs are underserved and disadvantaged vis-à-vis other students.

Solution

Raising Standards and Capabilities in the Provision of Disability Services in IHLs

The project aims to:

  • Pioneer the development of the basic set of guidelines for disability services in Singapore’s IHLs by contextualizing and localising international best practices;
  • Develop training programmes for disability services offices in IHLs, administrative staff and faculty to up-skill their capabilities in advancing learning access and inclusion, so that they can better support the learning needs of students with disabilities in IHLs.

Outcomes

Students with disabilities will be assured of greater equity and access to opportunities in IHLs. The disability support offices, faculty members and administrative staff in various post-secondary institutions will also be supported with more resources and training.
